Stichting Hand & Poot – een weg zonder terugweg In Turkije werd ik geconfronteerd met het harde leven van straathonden. Geen liefde, geen veiligheid, alleen overleven. Samen met mijn zussen besloot ik te helpen. Zo ontstond Stichting Hand & Poot, een helpende hand voor honden in Noord-Turkije. We bieden honden opvang, medische zorg en socialisatie. Ze leren weer vertrouwen opbouwen en worden voorbereid op adoptie. Tot nu toe hebben we 40 honden gesteriliseerd en heeft één hond een liefdevol thuis gevonden in Nederland. Je zou denken dat we in Nederland goed omgaan met huisdieren. Toch hebben veel huisdieren een afschuwelijk leven. Ze worden gedumpt, mishandeld, verwaarloosd of ze worden zo doorgefokt dat ze ziektes krijgen en pijn lijden. Andere huisdieren kwijnen weg door eenzaamheid of ze krijgen niet de zorg die ze nodig hebben. De Sophia-Vereeniging komt op voor deze dieren. Al sinds 1867 zetten wij ons in voor betere dierenbeschermende wetten en strenge controles. Ook is goede voorlichting hard nodig, zodat huisdieren zorgvuldig worden aangeschaft en er beter voor ze wordt gezorgd. Help jij mee om deze dieren het leven te geven dat ze verdienen?

Stichting Opvang Konijnenparadijs is een konijnenopvang in het onderste puntje van Friesland. Wij vangen konijnen op die worden afgestaan door particulieren, maar ook konijnen die zijn gedumpt. Helaas komt dit laatste nog erg vaak voor. We herplaatsen konijnen door ze te koppelen aan een maatje en een voorwaarde is een ruim en veilig verblijf, waar de konijnen naar hartelust kunnen rennen en springen. We vangen op elk moment +/- 80 konijnen op en hebben een lange wachtlijst, mensen willen helaas graag van hun konijnen af. Om al deze konijnen van zorg te voorzien, werken we met een groot team vrijwilligers en 2 vaste medewerkers 24/7 heel hard. We zijn volledig afhankelijk van donaties.

Stichting Pippi's Opvang is een dierenopvangcentrum op Curaçao dat zich inzet voor het redden en verzorgen van kwetsbare dieren, waaronder gewonde, oude, chronisch zieke en gehandicapte dieren met gedragsproblemen. Pippi's Opvang biedt deze dieren een veilige en liefdevolle omgeving waar ze kunnen herstellen en, indien mogelijk, herplaatst worden. De stichting draait volledig op vrijwilligers en donaties. SOS Dolfijn is a rescue organization for cetaceans in the North sea. Based in the Netherlands the main focus is on whales, dolphins and porpoises in need of help along the Dutch coast. In the past years also animals stranded in surrounding countries have been taken into rehabilitation and advice has been given worldwide. A highly trained and experienced crew is available 24/7 to offer help and is supported by dozens of volunteers. Next to advice and operation in rescue and rehabilitation, conservation is an important part of the organization. SOS Dolfijn is completely depending on donations and sponsoring. Squirrel Rescue and Rehab Western Cape (257-249 NPO) is dedicated to the rehabilitation and rescue of orphaned and injured squirrels in the Western Cape. We aim to raise and rehabilitate babies or adults that can be successfully reintegrated back into the wild. WE DO NOT condone keeping wild animals as pets, and do not condone squirrels kept in captivity.

Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature reduces human anger, fear and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature makes humans feel better emotionally and contributes to their physical well-being. Humans are genetically programmed to find trees, plants, water and other nature elements engrossing, and when absorbed by nature scenes are distracted from pain and discomfort. Ellie Cares invites terminally ill children to Adventures with Elephants and we visit hospitals and schools educating the children about nature and the elephants assisted by Ellie, our custom-made Mascot.

We rescue abused and neglected horses and do outreach programs into community areas, and take feed, tack, basic medical supplies and treat the horses and educate the owners. We also bring in abused children and youth and victims of human trafficking to interact with the herd and find peace, healing and hope. We are planning another outreach and need funds to buy the medical supplies and feed. We help 90 children and 40 women every month. We see 60 to 70 horses on each outreach and ensure each one has what it needs and the owner is educated in proper care, feeding and riding. We have made a difference and saved many lives, both horse and human .

Founded 9 years ago, to care for so-called gutter cats or feral cats as commonly known. We trap neuter and return these cats, care for them medically, feeding, etc. During covid we found that less fortunate owners cant afford to spay their pets and contributing to the numerous unwanted litters all destined to be part of this circle. We spay and neuter at least 60 animals per month and care for them. We are proud of what we stand for in Animal Welfare, combatting animal abuse and cruelty by stopping numerous unwanted pets .

Graskop animals in need is an animal shelter that rescues, rehabilitates and re homes animals. We work in the disadvantaged areas of our community and have a feeding scheme and sterilization campaign. Due to a 70% unemployment rate in Graskop, donations are basically non existent, to sustain the shelter. Our sim this coming year is to acquire a large piece of land where a Graskop Town Shelter can be built.

Our team of volunteers visit rural communities outside Hoedspruit each month and offer free veterinary care and education on animal welfare, there are no veterinary facilities in these communities. Volunteers vaccinate dogs to prevent common canine diseases from being transmitted to wildlife in adjacent reserves. HALO's goal is to sterilise and vaccinate the majority of the dog population. We are currently building a holding facility in one of the rural communities where dogs can recover from illness and injury and have employed two local people to work full-time caring for the dogs. Funding received from grants and donations is allocated 100% for the care of the dogs.

Building started in 2019 and the steel frame and roof erected with a clear plan and adequate funding. The Barn would become a safe space to house our special needs animals, offer facilities to generate funding for the Sanctuary, provide accommodation for visitors/volunteers/staff, and serve as a hub for our outreach programs with office and training space to facilitate this. Once started, however, COVID struck the globe. The price of steel trebled and we used our entire budget to finish the steel frame and roof. The project was halted so that the Sanctuary could weather lockdown as resources were redirected towards animal care and day to day.

Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre is a non-profit rehabilitation facility situated in Limpopo, South Africa. Dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of local wildlife that have been orphaned, injured, displaced, or confiscated from the illegal trade. Established in 2018, we are known for are high standards of welfare and rehabilitation. The Centre supports numerous animals at any given time, many of which are victims of human-wildlife conflict, poaching and other illegal wildlife activities. Our staff work to ensure that each animal is given exactly what they need to safely get back to being released back into the wild – where they belong.

The Vervet Monkey Foundation (VMF) is a non-profit organization established in 1993. The VMF is based in Tzaneen (Limpopo) South Africa. For the moment the VMF cares for more than 570 vervet monkeys: all orphaned, injured, formerly used in labs or ex-pets. In addition to try and rehabilitate the monkeys in their natural environment, the foundation is a place of education and an opportunity for volunteers to study and safeguard the behavior and environment of these indigenous monkeys.
